PRODUCTION/CAR BUILDER

Monday – Friday

7:00 am – 3:30 pm

$14.00 - $16.00 per hour

 

JOB SUMMARY

As a car builder, they will be working as a team to tear down existing kiln cars by removing deck blocks and old refractory, stripping the car down to the frame and rebuilding it back to an operational state.  The kiln cars are rebuilt in a sequence of steps; Generally takes a full week to rebuild a car.  The car builder will help make batches of refractory mixture (similar to concrete), pour and level, measure and set blocks.  They will also help to keep track of inventory usage of supplies/materials and keep good communication with the supervisor.  Must be willing to learn how to drive a forklift; some of the functions require the use of a forklift and maneuvering pallets of material for access.

  • Work as a team
  • Must be able to work in a group and independently
  • Tear down existing kiln cars, and rebuild them
  • Operate a forklift to bring in pallets of supplies/materials

 

JOB REQUIREMENTS

  • Must speak English; bilingual is a plus
  • Must have legible handwriting and good records-keeping
  • Good understanding of basic math required for quick and accurate counting and calculations
  • Must be able to read a tape measure, and use basic masonry tools
  • Attention to detail, accuracy, time management and organization
  • Must be adaptable to changes in the work environment to include heat, cold
  • Lift up to 50 pounds
  • Must be able to work safely and efficiently
  • Ability to follow directions
  • Keep areas and equipment as clean as possible
  • Assist maintenance in doing any repairs as necessary
  • Must be a quality-oriented and conscientious worker
  • Able to learn the job in a reasonable length of time
  • Be mechanically inclined
  • Be dependable and have a good attendance record
  • Have a good understanding of the manufacturing operation
  • Have a valid forklift certificate, or be willing to learn to operate and to receive certification
  • Have knowledge of weights and measurements
