The Mineral Wells Area Chamber of Commerce will host the 5th Annual State of the Community Luncheon on Friday, February 26, 2016 at 11:30 am at the First Baptist Church Mineral Wells Family Life Center. The luncheon this year, entitled “Shaping Our Town” will unveil plans to revive the historic Mineral Wells High School building as well as present the downtown redevelopment plans.
Alan Klein of the University of Texas at Arlington’s Institute of Urban Studies will make a presentation about plans to revive and redevelop the downtown Mineral Wells area. This redevelopment plan will focus on creating a vibrant and growing downtown area that will attract locals and tourists alike. Redeveloping the area will be of critical importance for the growth and traffic downtown when the Baker Hotel opens for business.
Following Mr. Klein’s presentation, Karl Komatsu of Komatsu Architecture will unveil the plans to revive the historic Mineral Wells High School. The High School could see new life and use as a possible community and cultural center for arts and history, small business incubator, visitors’ center and Chamber offices. The Mineral Wells Area Chamber of Commerce contracted with Komatsu Architecture because the firm has a strong portfolio of reviving historic buildings and utilizing grant monies designated for historical preservation.
